Are Root Canals Painful?

While giving his State of the Union speech, President Obama made a comparison of the popularity of the bank bailout to getting a root canal. Ouch is right, but not about getting a root canal.

Most root canal procedures are marginalized by our society as comedic scenes for a television show or movie.
They portray the dentist as the “evil” one inflicting pain upon their poor suffering victim. But a 2009 consumer survey showed that an “overwhelming majority of root canal patients use positive words to describe the experience.” Let’s be honest, most people don’t necessarily want to share the embarrassing fact that they may have neglected their teeth to the point of needing a root canal. In other words the good ones aren’t discussed, just the bad. Think about it, how many of your friends in conversation tell you about how “great a root canal I had today!”

Moral of the story as always, take care of your teeth and they will tend to take care of you unlike your banks!
