Hurt Your Jaw Joint?

Conservative Temporomandibular Joint Treatment

Have you ever been chewing and hurt your temporomandibular joint? How about waking up in the morning and your teeth are sore as well as your temporomandibular joint from clenching and grinding? Well here are a couple of suggestions that can help to conservative treat the sensitive injury.

Usually the pain is inflammation in its origin, sort of microscopic swelling. If you can take Ibuprofen, it is a great aid in reducing that "swelling". Applying an ice pack to the area of pain can help as well. Put the ice on for no more than 20 minutes at a time. If the pain lingers, treat the injury like a sprained ankle or knee; "do not run on it". When you eat hard foods, chew gum or ice and yawn widely you are proverbially running on your temporomandibular joint. The rule of thumb is a non-chew soft diet for two weeks to allow the area to heal.
