Dentistry While Being Pregnant
Pregnancy brings many challenges to a woman’s body; one of them being the impact of hormones upon the gums. While expecting the importance of having your teeth cleaned regularly should be maintained. When plaque is left behind on the gums, the tissue will react in an exaggerated inflammatory fashion. Flossing on a daily basis is needed even more than normally.
During the full term of carrying you should have your teeth cleaned twice, most importantly near the end of the pregnancy. After delivery, the life of a new mother takes on such responsibilities that it is often difficult to get to the hygienist.
Your oral hygiene is always of great importance, we just want you to be extra special careful to clean well and to maintain your normal visits while pregnant. If you have any questions regarding your dental health while you are pregnant, please do not hesitate to give us a call at 561-394-9000. We will be glad to schedule an appointment to help you preserve the ultimate oral health you so desire! Kenneth A. Mogell, D.M.D.

Sleep Apnea and Car Accidents
It seems that every day there are more reports about obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and how this condition impacts our lives. We hear about the effect sleep apnea has on our cardiovascular system increasing the risk for high blood pressure and stroke. But were you aware that sleep apnea was responsible for nearly two million drivers to be involved in either a car accident or a near miss. This data comes from the National Sleep Foundation and should be a wake-up call (no pun intended) for all of us.
Our society is experiencing some of the toughest economic times in our history and those stresses also affect our sleep. Did you know that 75% of Americans report at least one symptom of a sleep disturbance? 60% of adults report that they drove while being drowsy in the past year. 9% of men and 4% of the women in the United States have signs of Sleep Apnea. Frighteningly, 90% of the patients with Sleep Apnea haven’t even been diagnosed!
The National Sleep Foundation recommends that drivers observe the following warning signs that indicate that it’s time to stop driving and find a safe place to pull over and rest:
- Difficulty focusing, frequent blinking and/or heavy eyelids
- Trouble keeping your head up or yawning excessively
- Drifting from your lane, swerving, tailgating and/or hitting rumble strips
- Unable to clearly remember the last few miles driven
- Missing exits or traffic signs
- Feeling restless, irritable or aggressive
If you are experiencing excessive daytime sleepiness you may be living with Sleep Apnea. Please call us at 561-394-9000 to schedule an appointment to help determine if you are suffering with this potentially lethal condition. We will arrange an appointment that works best with your schedule to get you on your way to a healthier nights sleep. Kenneth A. Mogell, D.M.D.

Invisible Braces?
Technology is incredible sometimes. In the past when people discussed braces, images are conjured in our mind that generates the visions of brace face, tinsel teeth, metal mouth and even Ugly Betty of television fame. No longer is it necessary for our children to take the mental abuse of this name calling. No longer do adults have to be self-conscious about the fact that “at their age” they are being treated with orthodontics.
Invisalign braces were invented by Zia Chishti, are transparent, removable, and moldable braces generated using 3-D computer technology. Instead of one pair of braces that are constantly adjusted, a series of orthodontic aligners are worn in succession over a period of time. The results are straight beautiful teeth without the headaches of traditional “braces”.
Invisalign is a great alternative to traditional orthodontics but similarly to the traditional approach of straightening your teeth, it takes time. Invisalign isn’t necessarily faster in achieving your goal than other orthodontic alternative. Like all orthodontics wearing some kind of retainer upon completion of Invisalign is necessary to maintain the end result.
If you have any questions regarding Invisalign please do not hesitate to give our office a call at 561-394-9000. We will arrange an appointment the works best with your schedule to answer your questions and get you on your way towards getting the beautiful smile your desire. Kenneth A. Mogell, D.M.D.
