The Wonder of ImplantsThursday, February 22, 2007
Losing a tooth is, for whatever reason, is not a prospect that anyone relishes. In the past the solutions to replace that tooth have been to have a bridge or removable partial denture made or just do nothing. Bridges are costly and in many cases unnecessarily destroy health tooth structure.I personally lost one of my front teeth and I know it can be an embarrassing situation. My temporary bridge broke and I had to wait several days for a replacement. So how did I resolve the missing tooth? I had an implant placed where the tooth was extracted. I was surprised at the ease of the procedure, much easier than a root canal! My doctor got me numb, started the nitrous oxide, I put on my Ipod and before I new it was completed. I later had a beautiful porcelain crown placed on the implant. In many cases a temporary crown can be placed on the implant immediately. I love my implant! I can't tell the difference between the implant and my natural teeth.Implants are state of the art in dentistry and if done properly, they have the potential to last you your entire life! If you are missing teeth and are considering to replace them please call our office to arrange a consultation at 561-394-9000 Kenneth A. Mogell, D.M.D.
Pancreatic cancer linked to Periodontal disease?
Wednesday, February 21, 2007
I recently have seen several reports regarding the connection with Periodontal Disease and Pancreatic Cancer. Gum disease may increase the risk of developing deadly pancreatic cancer, even among those who have never smoked, according to research reported in Novemember 2006 at the American Association for Cancer Research’s Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research Meeting. A total of 216 men developed pancreatic cancer during follow-up. After factoring out smoking, diabetes, obesity, physical activity, diet and other potentially confounding factors, men with a history of gum disease had a 63-percent higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer relative to men without periodontal disease. Gum disease results in chronic inflammation over many years, the researchers explain, and people with gum disease harbor high levels of harmful bacteria in the mouth and gut and tend to have higher amounts of cancer-causing nitrosamines.Just another outstanding reason to have the best oral health that you can achieve. Please call our office at 561-394-9000 to schedule your next visit to maintian your periodontal health!

Mercury Crisis?
Wednesday, February 14, 2007
We are often asked if there is any truth to the information that is presented to the public about the dangers of filling material used in dentistry that contain mercury. Do I have a definitive answer? No? Am I concerned, yes. OSHA(Occupational, Safety and Health Administration) tell dentists that after restoring a tooth with a mercury type filling, that if there is additional meterial remaining, that excess must either be placed in another tooth or under water in an airtight sealed jar! Wow that is quite a statement! Many European countries have either banned or are in the process of banning restorative materials that utilize mercury. Our office chooses not to use mercury fillings for your safety as well as ours. We take special precautions when removing old mercury restorations to protect everyone from the unknown potential dangers that mercury vapors pose. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact our office at 561-394-9000

Can Dentistry help headaches?
Wednesday, February 07, 2007
Neuromuscular Dentistry, what is it? It differs from traditional dentistry by taking into account the staus and function of the muscles that control jaw position, chewing and swallowing. For years medicine has been utilizing computer technology to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Dentist have taken the steps to bring computers into service for treating our clients. We now have the ability to measure and study the paths the jaw travels during its opening and closing cycles to a tenth of a millimeter. Technology very similar to electrocardiograms allows us to monitor muscle activity. This is just a small example of the instrumentation we have available to help solve the complex nature of headache pain! If you feel you can benefit from an evaluation please cal us at 561-394-9000Kenneth A. Mogell, D.M.D.
